Edgemoor Estates: A good place to call home

The St. Petersburg community known as Edgemoor Estates includes approximately 700 homes, including single-family homes, apartments, and triplexes; businesses which include restaurants, drugstores, variety stores, three churches, a day-care facility and hair salons; and several parks. This neighborhood is across from Mangrove Bay golf course, a par-72 course open to the public and Cypress Links, a 9-hole executive golf course.

At the heart of the Edgemoor neighborhood is Puryear Park which has six tennis courts, racquetball courts, a playground, soccer fields, and a covered pavilion with picnic tables. It also boasts of having the only Jai Alai court in the United States and a kayak launch. Directly across from Puryear Park is a large grassy area and overlooks a pond which abounds with a variety of wildlife. It is not unusual to find neighbors and their dogs enjoying this area before taking off for a walk on the shaded trail that surrounds Puryear Park.

Within walking distance are Shore Acres Elementary school and Northeast High School, as well as two private schools: Canterbury and Shore Crest, both which provide classes for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Students who want to further their education will find that they can be at USF’s or St. Petersburg College’s downtown campuses within a few minutes.

The Edgemoor neighborhood is ideal for people whose work requires they travel, either by car or by plane. Both Tampa International Airport and Clearwater Airport are within a 30-minute car drive and the interstate can be reached in less than five minutes.
This is an established neighborhood with most homes ranging between forty to twenty years old; although, it is not unusual to find one structure being replaced with a new larger model. Large trees abound and many residents can be spotted out on the weekends working in their yards. This is one neighborhood in which residents are able to tap into reclaimed water.

Edgemoor Estates is also one of the most crime-free areas in the city. Residents can be seen strolling or riding their bikes around the streets in safety and neighbors look out for each other. It really is an ideal area to call home.
